There are several types of bridges.  A fixed dental bridge is a non-removable appliance that is used to replace the missing teeth. A removable bridge (denture) is a prosthetic that is also used to replace missing teeth but is removable for cleaning, resting etc.

Gaps left by missing teeth eventually cause the remaining teeth to shift resulting in a bad bite. This can also lead to gum disease and other disorders.

The “traditional bridge” is the most popular type and is usually made of porcelain fused to metal.  This type of bridge consists to two crowns that go over two anchoring teeth (abutment teeth) and are attached to artificial teeth (pontics), filling the gap created by one or more missing teeth.

Dental bridges are highly durable and will last many years, however they may need replacement or need to be re-cemented due to normal wear.

1. Preparation: During your initial appointment Dr. Le will prepare the two teeth that will anchor the fixed bridge by removing any decay and shaping the tooth for the Crown. Then we will take custom impressions of both teeth to ensure a perfect fit. This custom impression is used to then prepare the temporary bridge which will protect the prepared teeth and allow you to have no interruptions while the final fixed bridge is specially made.
2. Delivery: During your second appointment Dr. Le will remove the temporary bridge and clean the anchor teeth before your new permanent fixed bridge will be carefully checked, adjusted, and cemented to ensure the spacing and bite are accurate. Before permanently cementing the fixed bridge, adjustments might need to be made which would result in a possible 3rd visit.

Fixed Bridges should be treated same way as natural teeth and patients should brush and clean their teeth at least twice a day and make regular dental visits.
